Description: This MAb stains the cytoplasm of macrophages and histiocytes in hematopoietic organs, Kupffer's cells of the liver and Langerhan's cells of the skin. It also stains the mantle zone B-lymphocytes of the lymph node and spleen, spermatogonia, and chief cells of the stomach. S100A9 is expressed by macrophages in acutely inflamed tissues and in chronic inflammation. It is detected in peripheral blood leukocytes, in neutrophils and granulocytes. It is present at sites of vascular inflammation. S100A9 is also expressed in epithelial cells constitutively or induced during dermatoses. S100A9 is a Calcium-binding protein. It has antimicrobial activity towards bacteria and fungi. It is important for resistance to invasion by pathogenic bacteria. It up-regulates transcription of genes that are under the control of NF-kappa-B. S100A9 plays a role in the development of endotoxic shock in response to bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). It promotes tubulin polymerization when unphosphorylated. It also promotes phagocyte migration and infiltration of granulocytes at sites of wounding. It plays a role as a pro-inflammatory mediator in acute and chronic inflammation and up-regulates the release of IL8 and cell-surface expression of ICAM1.

Description: As a subfamily of the cadherin superfamily, protocadherins are cadherin-like cell adhesion proteins that contain up to seven extracellular domains and are predominantly expressed in the nervous system. Importantly, the adhesion mechanism of protocadherins is distinct from classic cadherins. Through inactivation or overexpression, several protocadherins have been implicated in a variety of cancers. Protocadherin-20 (PCDH20), also known as protocadherin-13, is a 924 amino acid protein containing 6 cadherin domains and potentially functioning as a calcium-dependent cell-adhesion protein. In non-small cell lung cancer cell lines, a homozygous loss of PCDH20 was identified through either deletion of one allele and methylation of the other or methylation of both alleles. Hypermethylation of PCDH20 is associated with worse prognosis and clinical outcome, suggesting that PCDH20 may function as a tumor suppressor.

CD55/DAF is widely expressed on cells throughout the body including leukocytes, erythrocytes, epithelium, endothelium, and fibroblasts. It is a Glycosyl phosphatidylinositol anchored (GPI-anchored) member of the membrane bound complement regulatory proteins that inhibit autologous complement cascade activation. It prevents the amplification steps of the complement cascade by interfering with the assembly of the C3-convertases, C4b2a and C3bBb, and the C5-convertase, C4b2a3b and C3bBb3b. CD55 also serves as receptor for CD97 and for echovirus and Coxsackie B virus. Anti-CD55 can be used as marker for paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH).
