Description: The GLTP (glycolipid transfer protein) superfamily is defined by a unique lipid transfer/binding fold (GLTP fold) that accelerate glycolipid intermembrane transfer. GLTPD2 is a 291 amino acid protein that belongs to the GLTP family. The gene encoding GLTPD2 maps to human chromosome 17, which comprises over 2.5% of the human genome and encodes over 1200 genes. Two key tumour suppressor genes are associated with chromosome 17, p53 and BRCA1. Malfunction or loss of p53 expression is associated with malignant cell growth and Li-Fraumeni syndrome. Neurofibromatosis, a condition characterised by neural and epidermal lesions, and dysregulated Schwann cell growth are both linked to mutations on chromosome 17. Alexander disease, Birt-Hogg-Dube syndrome and Canavan disease are also associated with chromosome 17.

Description: The Hox homeobox genes encode proteins that are transcriptional regulators with an established role in embryonic development. HoxA6 (homeobox A6), also known as HOX1B, is a 233 amino acid protein that localizes to the nucleus. Expressed during embryonic development, HoxA6 functions as a sequence-specific DNA-binding transcription factor that is part of a regulatory mechanism that provides cells with positional identities during development. Via its ability to bind DNA, HoxA6 plays an important role in the regulation of gene expression, as well as morphogenesis and differentiation. The gene encoding HoxA6 maps to human chromosome 7, which houses over 1,000 genes and comprises nearly 5% of the human genome. Defects in some of the genes localised to chromosome 7 have been linked to Osteogenesis imperfecta, Williams-Beuren syndrome, Pendred syndrome, Lissencephaly, Citrullinemia and Shwachman-Diamond syndrome.

Description: BTG1 belongs to the BTG family of proteins.FUNCTION: Anti-proliferative protein. Its expression is associated with the early G1 phase of the cell cycle. A chromosomal aberration involving BTG1 may be a cause of a form of B cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia; translocation t(8;12)(q24;q22) with MYC.

BTG2 is a member of the BTG/Tob family. This family has structurally related proteins that appear to have antiproliferative properties. BTG2 is involved in the regulation of the G1/S transition of the cell cycle. It modulates transcription regulation mediated by ESR1(referenced from Entrez Gene). BTG2 expression is induced in vivo during neurogenesis, and the gene is transiently expressed in vitro in rat pheochromocytoma PC12 cells after induction of neuronal differentiation by addition of nerve growth factor (NGF); suggesting that BTG2 is functionally significant during the neuronal differentiation process (PMID: 12360398).

Description: The ubiquitin (Ub) pathway involves three sequential enzymatic steps that facilitate the conjugation of Ub and Ub-like molecules to specific protein substrates. The first step requires ATP-dependent activation of the Ub C-terminus and assembly of multi-Ub chains by a Ub-activating enzyme known as the E1 component. The Ub chain is then conjugated to the Ub-conjugating enzyme (E2) to generate an intermediate Ub-E2 complex. The Ub-ligase (E3) then catalyzes the transfer of Ub from E2 to the appropriate protein substrate. UBE2U (ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2U) is a 321 amino acid E2 ubiquitin conjugating enzyme that catalyzes the covalent attachment of ubiquitin to other proteins. Existing as two alternatively spliced isoforms, UBE2U is encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 1, which spans 260 million base pairs, contains over 3,000 genes and comprises nearly 8% of the human genome.

Supplier: Merck
Description: Dehydrated media are used for a wide variety of applications. To minimise the risks associated with powdered culture media, the majority of Merck's dehydrated culture media is produced in granular form. Merck uses ingredients of non animal origin to minimise the potential risk of transmissible spongiform encephalitis (TSE). When there is no alternative, only ingredients which are recommended by EDQM, and belonging to TSE category B or C are used. This ensures that the product is of the highest quality and in compliance with the standards for food control, microbiological testing on finished products and starting materials, and quality control in the pharmaceuticals and cosmetics industries. Custom-made media can be prepared to meet individual customer specifications. The formulation is kept confidential via a Non Disclosure Agreement. Please enquire for further details. Catalog Number: (BOSSBS-9796R-A750)

Description: Chromosome 1 is the largest human chromosome spanning about 260 million base pairs and making up 8% of the human genome. There are about 3000 genes on chromosome 1, and considering the great number of genes there are also a large number of diseases associated with chromosome 1. Notably, the rare aging disease Hutchinson-Gilford progeria is associated with the LMNA gene which encodes lamin A. When defective, the LMNA gene product can build up in the nucleus and cause characteristic nuclear blebs. The mechanism of rapidly enhanced aging is unclear and is a topic of continuing exploration. The MUTYH gene is located on chromosome 1 and is partially responsible for familial adenomatous polyposis. Stickler syndrome, Parkinson's, Gaucher disease and Usher syndrome are also associated with chromosome 1. A breakpoint has been identified in 1q which disrupts the DISC1 gene and is linked to schizophrenia. Aberrations in chromosome 1 are found in a variety of cancers including head and neck cancer, malignant melanoma and multiple myeloma. The C1orf96 gene product has been provisionally designated C1orf96 pending further characterisation.

Description: Midline-1 (Tripartite motif-containing protein 18, Putative transcription factor XPRF, RING finger protein 59) is a 667 amino acid protein encoded by the human gene MID1. Midline-1 belongs to the TRIM/RBCC family and contains two B box-type zinc fingers, one B30.2/SPRY domain, one COS domain, one fibronectin type-III domain and one RING-type zinc finger. Midline-1 is believed to have E3 ubiquitin ligase activity which targets the catalytic subunit of protein phosphatase 2 for degradation. It is a cytoplasmic protein found as a homodimer or heterodimer with Midline-2. It also interacts with IGBP1 (Lymphocyte signaling protein A4). Defects in MID1 are the cause of Opitz syndrome type I (OS-I). OS-I is an X-linked recessive disorder characterised by hypertelorism, genital-urinary defects such as hypospadias in males and splayed labia in females, lip-palate-laryngotracheal clefts, imperforate anus, developmental delay and congenital heart defects. OS-I mutations produce proteins with a decreased affinity for microtubules.
