Description: This antibody recognizes a protein of 25-26 kDa, identified as the bcl-2 α oncoprotein. It shows no cross-reaction with Bcl-x or Bax protein. Expression of bcl-2 α oncoprotein inhibits the programmed cell death (apoptosis). In most follicular lymphomas, neoplastic germinal centers express high levels of bcl-2 α protein, whereas the normal or hyperplastic germinal centers are negative. Consequently, this antibody is valuable when distinguishing between reactive and neoplastic follicular proliferation in lymph node biopsies. It may also be used in distinguishing between those follicular lymphomas that express bcl-2 protein and the small number in which the neoplastic cells are bcl-2 negative.

Description: Adducins are a family of cytoskeleton proteins encoded by three genes (alpha, beta and gamma). Adducin is a protein associated with the inner leaflet of the plasma membrane and is one of the proteins localized at the spectrin-Actin junction of the membrane skeleton. The cortical Actin cytoskeletal network is lost during apoptosis and Adducins are central in the cortical Actin network organization. Adducin alpha is a cytoskeletal protein involved with sodium-pump activity in the renal tubule and is associated with hypertension. The expression of Adducin alpha and Adducin gamma is ubiquitous in contrast to the restricted expression of Adducin beta . Adducin beta is expressed at high levels in brain and hematopoietic tissues, such as bone marrow in humans and spleen in mice.

Description: The rTS gene codes for a naturally occurring antisense RNA to thymidylate synthase (TS) mRNA and two proteins (rTSalpha and rTSbeta (also known as ENOSF1)). The role of the major protein product of rTS, ENOSF1 has been linked to alterations in TS protein expression, but the precise function of ENOSF1 is unknown. Expression of rTS is associated with growth arrest in cell culture, but its overexpression has been noted in cells resistant to anticancer drugs such as 5-fluorouracil and methotrexate. Studies have shown that increased expression of ENOSF1 is associated with the decrease in TS protein expression due to production of novel, diffusible signal molecules.

Description: Striatin, SG2NA, and zinedin, the three mammalian members of the striatin family, are multimodular, WD-repeat and calmodulin-binding proteins. Zinedin and SG2NA share with striatin identical protein-protein interaction domains and the same overall domain structure. All three proteins are both cytosolic and membrane-bound and bind calmodulin in the presence of calcium. Striatin is a neuronal, intracellular protein strictly expressed in the somatodendritic compartment, including spines, subsets of neurons, and is considered as a marker of neuronal polarity. Downregulation of striatin, which is expressed in a few subsets of neurons, impairs the growth of dendrites as well as rat locomotor activity. Zinedin is mainly expressed in the central nervous system, whereas SG2NA is mainly expressed in the brain and muscle.

Description: Tau proteins are important Promotes microtubule assembly and stability, and might be involved in the establishment and maintenance of neuronal polarity. The C-terminus binds axonal microtubules while the N-terminus binds neural plasma membrane components, suggesting that tau functions as a linker protein between both. Axonal polarity is predetermined by tau localisation (in the neuronal cell) in the domain of the cell body defined by the centrosome. The short isoforms allow plasticity of the cytoskeleton whereas the longer isoforms may preferentially play a role in its stabilisation. Tau proteins subcellular located in the axons of neurons, in the cytoso l and in association with plasma membrane components. It expressed in neurons. PNS-tau is expressed in the peripheral nervous system while the others are expressed in the central nervous system.

Description: Members of the RTP (receptor transporter proteins) family have recently been discovered to influence bitter taste receptor expression in addition to inducing the expression of mammalian odorant receptors. RTP3 is a 232 amino acid single-pass type III membrane protein belonging to the TMEM7 family. Unlike other RTP proteins, RTP3 is not expressed in olfactory neurons but is expressed predominantly in liver. RTP3 is involved in the functional expression of bitter taste receptors and suppresses cell proliferation, and is also found in human circumvallate papillae and testis (regions where bitter taste receptors are expressed). The gene encoding RTP3 maps to human chromosome 3p21.31 within C3CER1 (chromosome 3 common eliminated region 1), which is frequently eliminated in chromosomal deletions of solid tumors.
