Description: Interleukin-20 (IL-20) is a member of the IL-10 family of regulatory cytokines that includes IL-10, IL-19, IL-20, IL-22, IL-24 and IL-26. Members of this family share partial homology in their amino acid sequences but they are dissimilar in their biological functions. IL-20 exhibits approximately 28% amino acid identity with IL-10 and 76% amino acid identity with mouse IL-20. There are two heterodimeric receptor complexes for IL-20. The first is composed of IL-20 R alpha and IL-20 R beta . The second is composed of IL-22 R and IL-20 R beta . Whereas the IL-22 R/IL-20 R beta complex is shared with IL-24, the IL-20 R alpha/IL-20 R beta complex is shared with both IL-19 and IL-24. IL-20 has been shown to initiate transduction cascades involving STAT3 and stimulates the induction of pro-inflammatory genes including TNF- alpha and MCP-1. Initial functional studies using transgenic mice suggest that IL-20 has the ability to regulate skin development. The over-expression of both human and mouse forms of IL-20 results in keratinocyte hyper-proliferation, abnormal epidermal differentiation, and neonatal lethality. In humans, IL-20 and its receptors are up-regulated in psoriatic skin, and polymorphisms in the IL-20 gene have been associated with plaque-type psoriasis. IL-20 may also have a role in hematopoiesis. It enhances the proliferation of multi-potential progenitors in vitro and increases their numbers and cell cycling status in IL-20 transgenic mice. IL-20 is also shown to suppress COX-2 and PGE2 and acts as an inhibitor of angiogenesis in model systems.

Description: CD6 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein that contains a 24-amino acid signal sequence, three extracellular 'scavenger receptor cysteine-rich' (SRCR) domains, a membrane-spanning domain and a 44-amino acid cytoplasmic domain. The glycoprotein is tyrosine phosphorylated during TCR-mediated T cell activation. It shows significant homology to CD5. CD6 is present on mature thymocytes, peripheral T cells and a subset of B cells. CD6 antibody can be used to deplete T cells from bone marrow transplants to prevent graft versus host disease.

Description: 5-Fluorodeoxyuridine is an antineoplastic agent, which acts as an anti-metabolite. When administrated by rapid injection it acts as flurouracil, but when infused slowly, usually intra-arterially, it is converted to active F-dUMP, which leads to enhanced inhibition of DNA synthesis. It inhibits DNA synthesis by blocking thymidylic acid synthetase.

Description: Uridine is one of the four basic components of ribonucleic acid (RNA); the other three are adenosine, guanosine, and cytidine. Upon digestion of foods containing RNA, uridine is released from RNA and is absorbed intact in the gut. Uridine plays a role in the glycolysis pathway of galactose.
Uridine is used in treatment of bipolar disorder associated with mood swings.Uridine is used in metabolic labeling and analysis of rRNA processing.

Description: Fatty aldehyde dehydrogenase (or Long-chain-aldehyde dehydrogenase) is an aldehyde dehydrogenase enzyme that in human is encoded in the ALDH3A2 gene on chromosome 17. ALDH3A2 catalyzes the oxidation of long-chain aliphatic aldehydes into fatty acids. It is known to act on a variety of both saturated and unsaturated aliphatic aldehydes between 6 to 24 carbons in length, as well as dihydrophytal, a 20-carbon branched chain aldehyde. It requires NAD+ as a co-factor. The encoded enzyme is responsible for conversion of the sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) degradation product hexadecenal to hexadecenoic acid. ALD3H2 is expressed in the human liver and has been found to localize the microsome fraction inside the cell.

Description: CYP46A1 is a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and hydroxylates medium-chain fatty acids such as laurate and myristate. This gene encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This endoplasmic reticulum protein is expressed in the brain, where it converts cholesterol to 24S-hydroxycholesterol. While cholesterol cannot pass the blood-brain barrier, 24S-hydroxycholesterol can be secreted in the brain into the circulation to be returned to the liver for catabolism.
