Description: The antibody HEB-29 reacts with human blood group B. The specificity of the antibody HEB-29 was confirmed by comparison of specificity and reactivity to standard reagent using >5.000 samples of blood. MAb HEB-29 shows specific staining of erythrocytes and vascular epithelium of blood group B controls and no staining in group A controls. It is applicable for tissue staining in tumor patients with blood groups B and AB. Blood group antigens are generally defined as molecules formed by sequential addition of saccharides to the carbohydrate side chains of lipids and proteins detected on erythrocytes and certain epithelial cells. The A, B and H antigens are reported to undergo modulation during malignant cellular transformation. Blood group related antigens represent a group of carbohydrate determinants carried on both glycolipids and glycoproteins. They are usually mucin type, and are detected on erythrocytes, certain epithelial cells, and in secretions of certain individuals. Sixteen genetically and biosynthetically distinct but inter related specificities belong to this group of antigens, including A, B, H, Lewis A, Lewis B, Lewis X, Lewis Y, and precursor type 1 chain antigens.

Description: Growth/differentiation factors (GDFs) are members of the TGF superfamily (1,2). Members of the TGF superfamily are involved in embryonic development and adult tissue homeostasis (1). GDF-1 expression is almost exclusively restricted to the central nervous system and mediates cell differentiation events during embryonic development (3). Neither GDF-3 (Vgr-2) nor GDF-9 contains the conserved cysteine residue which is found in most other TGF superfamily members. GDF-3 is detectable in bone marrow, spleen, thymus and adipose tissue, whereas GDF-9 has only been detected in ovary (4). GDF-5 (also designated CDMP-1) has been shown to induce activation of plasminogen activator, thereby inducing angiogenesis. It is predominantly expressed in long bones during fetal embryonic development and is involved in bone formation. (5). GDF-5 mutations have been identified in mice with the mutation brachypodism (bp), a mutation which affects the length and number of bones in limbs (6). GDF-6 and GDF-7 are closely related to GDF-5 (6). GDF-8 has been shown to be a negative regulator of skeletal muscle mass (1).

Description: There are three sorCS genes that have diverse, partially overlapping functions in the central nervous system. In the developing and mature central nervous system, the homologous SorCS1 and SorCS2 genes and the SorCS3 gene are expressed in a combinatorial, non-overlapping pattern. SorCS proteins show homology to the mosaic receptor SorLA and the neurotensin receptor sortilin, based on a common VPS10 domain, which is the hallmark of the SorCS receptor family. SorCS1 is a type 1 receptor containing a VPS10P domain and a leucine-rich domain. Alternative splicing of human SorCS1 results in four isoforms with different cytoplasmic tails and differential expression in tissues. Human SorCS1 is detected in fetal and infant brain and in fetal retina. Alternative splicing of murine SorCS1 also results in four isoforms. Murine isoform 1 is highly expressed in brain and at lower levels in heart, liver and kidney. It is detected in newborn mouse brain and in adult olfactory bulb and cerebral cortex. Murine isoform 2 is highly expressed in liver and at lower levels in heart, brain, kidney and testis.

Description: Ulex Europaeus is a European gorse shrub with fragrant golden-yellow flowers. Ulex Europaeus-I Lectin is a 46 kDa glycoprotein known to interact with -L fucosyl residues in oligosaccharides present on the membranes of human blood group O erythrocytes, human endothelial cells and a variety of human and animal epithelial cells. This antibody reacts with Ulex Europaeus Lectin 1 bound to human endothelial cells of normal and neoplastic blood and lymphatic vesicles. It also reacts with human epithelia such as in the colon, bronchus, epidermis, sweat gland ducts and hair follicles. It also reacts with for Ulex Europaeus Lectin 1 bound to vasclular endothelium and squamous epithelium of human tonsil. While erythrocytes may be stained, no other tonsilar elements are reactive with the antibody. This antibody may be useful in the detection of vascular tumors, the This antibody may be useful in the detection of vascular tumors, the investigation of vascular invasion by tumor cells, for determination of Ulex Europaeus Lectin 1 binding to normal, embryonal, dysplastic and neoplastic epithelia and the study of storage diseases such as fucosidosis.

Description: Acid sensing ion channel ASIC1 is present in brain as a 4.3-kb transcript with localization to rat dorsal root ganglia. In situ hybridization of rat brain suggests that ASIC1 is most abundant in the main olfactory bulb, cerebral cortex, hippocampal formation, habenula, basolateral amygdaloid nuclei and cerebellum. ASIC1 and H+-gated currents may contribute to the development of fear and anxiety. ASIC2, also designated amiloride-sensitive cation channel 1, neuronal (ACCN1), mammalian degenerin, BNAC1 (MDEG) and brain Na+ channel 1, mediates the normal detection of light touch. ASIC2 mRNA is abundant in brain, specifically in neurons. ASIC2 is expressed as 2.7- and 3.7-kb transcripts in brain and spinal cord tissues. ASIC3, also designated SLNAC1 and TNaC1, mediates detection of lasting pH changes and is involved in modulating moderate- to high-intensity pain sensation. ASIC4, also designated ACCN4 and BNAC4, is abundant in pituitary gland and is also present in the inner ear.

Description: Nitrotyrosine is a marker for inflammation and nitric oxide (NO) production and is formed in the presence of the active metabolite NO. Because nitrotyrosine is a stable product of multiple pathways, such as the formation of peroxynitrite, its plasma concentration may be a useful determinant of NO-dependent damage in vivo. Nitrotyrosine has been detected in inflammatory processes such as septic shock, rheumatoid arthritis, celiac disease, atherosclerotic plaques and chronic renal failure.

Description: This antibody reacts with Bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) in single stranded DNA (produced by partial denaturation of double stranded DNA), BrdU coupled to a protein carrier, as well as free BrdU. BrdU is a thymidine analog, incorporated into cell nuclei during DNA synthesis prior to mitosis. Antibody to BrdU is helpful in detecting S-phase cells, providing useful information on the aggressiveness of tumors.

Description: Cyclin G2 may play a role in growth regulation and in negative regulation of cell cycle progesssion. Cyclin G2 expression levels increase through the cell cycle to peak in the mid/late-S phase and decrease during G2/M phase. It may also contribute in maintaining the quiescent state of differentiated cells. Cyclin G2 is similar to cyclin A in the cyclin box, although no kinase activity is detected.
