Description: Chromosome 9 consists of about 145 million bases and 4% of the human genome and encodes nearly 900 genes. Considered to play a role in gender determination, deletion of the distal portion of 9p can lead to development of male to female sex reversal, the phenotype of a female with a male X,Y genotype. Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, which is characterised by harmful vascular defects, is associated with the chromosome 9 gene encoding endoglin protein, ENG. Familial dysautonomia is also associated with chromosome 9 though through the gene IKBKAP. Notably, chromosome 9 encompasses the largest interferon family gene cluster. Chromosome 9 is partnered with chromosome 22 in the translocation leading to the aberrant production of BCR-ABL fusion protein often found in leukemias. The C9orf78 gene product has been provisionally designated C9orf78 pending further characterisation.

Description: This gene is a member of a group of genes whose transcript levels are increased following stressful growth arrest conditions and treatment with DNA-damaging agents. The protein encoded by this gene responds to environmental stresses by mediating activation of the p38/JNK pathway via MTK1/MEKK4 kinase. The GADD45G is highly expressed in placenta.

Description: The protein encoded by this gene shares similarity with the yeast Mob1 protein. Yeast Mob1 binds Mps1p, a protein kinase essential for spindle pole body duplication and mitotic checkpoint regulation. This gene is located on the opposite strand as the interferon kappa precursor (IFNK) gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].

Description: Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) is released in a pulsatile manner that varies with the reproductive cycle. This hypothalamic hormone is transported to the pituitary, where it binds to specific receptors and regulates the synthesis and release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Localized to the cell membrane, GnRHR2 mediates its own receptor activity via association with G proteins, thereby activating a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system that regulates GnRHR2 function. GnRHR2 is thought to have potent antiproliferative effects on ovarian and endometrial cancer cells, suggesting a possible role in tumor suppression. Due to alternative splicing events, GnRHR2 is expressed as two isoforms.

Description: Negative regulator of YAP1 in the Hippo signaling pathway that plays a pivotal role in organ sise control and tumor suppression by restricting proliferation and promoting apoptosis. The core of this pathway is composed of a kinase cascade wherein STK3/MST2 and STK4/MST1, in complex with its regulatory protein SAV1, phosphorylates and activates LATS1/2 in complex with its regulatory protein MOB1, which in turn phosphorylates and inactivates YAP1 oncoprotein and WWTR1/TAZ. Phosphorylation of YAP1 by LATS1 inhibits its translocation into the nucleus to regulate cellular genes important for cell proliferation, cell death, and cell migration. Acts as a tumor suppressor which plays a critical role in maintenance of ploidy through its actions in both mitotic progression and the G1 tetraploidy checkpoint. Negatively regulates G2/M transition by down-regulating CDK1 kinase activity. Involved in the control of p53 expression. Affects cytokinesis by regulating actin polymerisation through negative modulation of LIMK1. May also play a role in endocrine function.

Description: Translation repressor. Component of the CYFIP1-EIF4E-FMR1 complex which binds to the mRNA cap and mediates translational repression. In the CYFIP1-EIF4E-FMR1 complex this subunit mediates translation repression (By similarity). RNA-binding protein that plays a role in intracellular RNA transport and in the regulation of translation of target mRNAs. Associated with polysomes. May play a role in the transport of mRNA from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. Binds strongly to poly(G), binds moderately to poly(U) but shows very little binding to poly(A) or poly(C).

Description: HGFA Inhibitor 1 is an endogenous inhibitor of the kunitz-type serine proteinase HGF-activator (HGFA). HGF was first described as a hepatocyte-specific mitogen and survival factor, and has since been shown to exert a variety of actions on many cell types by binding to its MET receptor. HGF is activated by cleavage of the single-chain form to form a two-chain version by HGFA. HGFA Inhibitor 1 also inhibits trypsin, and MTSP-1 (Matriptase), a serine proteinase that also activates HGF. HGFB Inhibitor 1 is a splice variant of HGFA Inhibitor 1, and contains a 16 amino acid insert after the first kringle domain, relative to the HGFA Inhibitor 1 sequence.

Description: This gene encodes a member of the "fused gene" family of proteins, which contain N terminus EF hand domains and multiple tandem peptide repeats. The encoded protein contains two EF hand Ca2+ binding domains in its N terminus and two glutamine and threonine rich 60 amino acid repeats in its C terminus. This gene, also known as squamous epithelial heat shock protein 53, may play a role in the mucosal/epithelial immune response and epidermal differentiation.

Description: Component of the MRN complex, which plays a central role in double-strand break (DSB) repair, DNA recombination, maintenance of telomere integrity and meiosis. The complex possesses single-strand endonuclease activity and double-strand-specific 3'-5' exonuclease activity, which are provided by MRE11A. RAD50 may be required to bind DNA ends and hold them in close proximity. This could facilitate searches for short or long regions of sequence homology in the recombining DNA templates, and may also stimulate the activity of DNA ligases and/or restrict the nuclease activity of MRE11A to prevent nucleolytic degradation past a given point. The complex may also be required for DNA damage signaling via activation of the ATM kinase. In telomeres the MRN complex may modulate t-loop formation.

Description: Laminin S binds to cells via a high affinity receptor, laminin is thought to mediate the attachment, migration and organization of cells into tissues during embryonic development by interacting with other extracellular matrix components. Laminin S is a complex glycoprotein, consisting of three different polypeptide chains (alpha, beta, gamma), which are bound to each other by disulfide bonds into a cross-shaped molecule comprising one long and three short arms with globules at each end. Beta 2 is a subunit of laminin 3 (Laminin S), laminin 4 (S merosin), and laminin 7 (KS laminin).

Catalog Number: (BOSSBS-3634R-CY5.5)
Supplier: Bioss
Description: Siah2 is a E3 Ubiquitin ligase protein that mediates ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation of target proteins. E3 ubiquitin ligases accept ubiquitin from an E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme in the form of a thioester and then directly transfer the ubiquitin to targets. Siah2 triggers the ubiquitin-mediated degradation of many proteins, including transcription regulators (e.g. POU2AF1, PML, NCOR1), cell surface receptors (e.g. DCC), antiapoptotic proteins (e.g. BAG1), and proteins involved in synaptic vesicle function in neurons (e.g. SYP). Siah2 has some overlapping function with SIAH1 but is able to trigger the ubiquitin-mediated degradation of TRAF2, whereas SIAH1 can not.
